Swim Season Basics

Registration

Families register for the team beginning in early March through the SwimTopia website and pay the team dues.

Volunteering

Summer league swimming is run entirely by volunteers. Each family is asked to help during the season so that practices, meets, and team events run smoothly. See the Volunteering section for details.

Dryland Training

The season typically begins with a week of afternoon dryland training in mid–late April. This gives swimmers a chance to meet their coaches and teammates while building conditioning before getting in the pool.

Pool Practices

Pool practices usually begin in late April or early May and take place Monday–Friday, with practice times separated by age group. These sessions help swimmers build skills, confidence, and endurance ahead of competition.

Summer league is not intended to teach swimming from scratch, but younger swimmers receive additional support from coaches and volunteer helpers.

Meet Sign-Ups

Each week, swimmers sign up for the upcoming Saturday meet through the Meet Calendar on SwimTopia. Coaches finalize the event lineup based on training performance and team needs.

Time Trials

The first meet of the season is Time Trials, which helps swimmers experience a meet environment and establishes official seed times for the rest of the season.

Weekly Swim Meets

Meets take place on Saturday mornings, typically running from early morning until around midday. Swimmers compete against other teams in our division, either at our home pool or at the opposing team’s pool.

Divisional Championships

The final meet of the regular season is the Divisional Championship, where all teams in the division compete together to determine final standings.

Invitational Meets

Some swimmers may qualify for invitational meets hosted by other Houston-area clubs. The Champions Park Stars typically participate in the Spring Sizzler, Red, White & Blue, and Ponderosa invitationals.

End-of-Season Party

The season runs from mid-April through late June and concludes with an End-of-Season Party celebrating our swimmers, coaches, and families.

We hope the season is filled with hard work, fun, friendship, and great memories!

New Parent Meet Day Tips

Arrive early.

Swimmers typically arrive early in the morning to check in and warm up before the meet begins.

Check in your swimmer.
When you arrive, find the team check-in sheets and highlight your swimmer’s name so coaches know they are present.

Know your swimmer’s events.
Event numbers are usually posted before the meet. Many families write the event numbers on their swimmer’s arm with a marker so they remember when to report.

Listen for announcements.
Events are called throughout the meet so swimmers know when to head to the ready area.

Ask for help.
If you’re unsure where to go or what to do, don’t hesitate to ask a coach, team rep, or experienced parent. Everyone was new once!
